Technology Training
IITS wants to make understanding Utica University's technology easy. To do so we've built this page as a getting started reference. It covers just some of our technology resources and things you need to know as a new student or new employee at the University.Getting Started
- Password - Setup your password for most Utica systems at https://password.utica.edu. These must be changed every 120 days for security purposes. There are some Utica related systems, such as the bookstore, which won't use this password. For those, look for a "forgot password" link.
- Multifactor authentication (MFA) - Many Utica systems require MFA for extra login security. This uses your phone (app, text, or call) in addition to your password. When you first log in to a Utica system that requires it, you'll be prompted to set it up. We recommend using both the app and the text methods, so you have two options.
- Wi-Fi - Each person gets a unique code to join the UticaU_Wi-Fi network. See your email for a message entitled "Login Credentials". Employees are encouraged to use the wired network connections at their desks for higher speed Internet access.
- Email & Calendar - We've been using Google (https://mail.utica.edu) for email, but are soon switching to Microsoft Outlook online (https://outlook.office.com). See our getting started guide, which explains the interface and recommended settings. We highly recommend using the Outlook app for email on your phone, rather than the Gmail or Apple Mail apps.
- BannerWeb - This is an administrative system that manages things like registering for classes and employee timesheets. It can be found at https://bannerweb.utica.edu.
- Learning Management System (LMS), i.e., Online class platform. - Primarily we use Engage.utica.edu for online classes or as a digital environment to supplement in-person classes. Any faculty member who needs training can also reach out to our Center for Faculty Excellence at facultyexcellence@utica.edu.
- Microsoft Teams - Teams is replacing Google Chat, Google Shared Drives, and video conferencing. Anything that you do for an office, group, or student club, should be stored in a team and not in your individual OneDrive account. See our intro to Teams here.
- Classroom Technology - Most Utica campus classrooms have a computer, projector, camera, microphone, speakers, and a connection for a laptop to display video. Please watch the Classroom AV Tour (8 minutes) video.
- Office Technology - Except for adjunct faculty, most employees are eligible for a Utica issued laptop, keyboard, mouse, and monitor. See Utica issued tech (5 minutes). If you are issued a desk phone, see our phones (6 minutes) video or instruction guide to phones and voicemail. For those on the go, we have options to have calls route to your cell phone, and/or answer calls on your Utica issued laptop.
- Printing - See www.utica.edu/printers for a map of where public printers are located. Students can find instructions here to setup printing on their personal computers. After printing to the "PaperCut" printer, scan your ID at any campus printer to release the print job. Employees may have other printing locations not shown on the map. The University also has a Copy Center for larger volume printing, poster printing, and more.
- Information Security - Most employees must complete information security training the month after they start, and annually each Fall. You'll get an email from notifications@right-hand.ai for this.
