The purpose of the Direct Admission Agreement between the two institutions is to provide a streamlined pipeline for students graduating from Utica University to earn direct admission to graduate programs in Syracuse University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science.

Utica University President Stephanie Nesbitt and Syracuse University Chancellor Kent Syverud are proud to announce a new articulation agreement that will create a pathway to further education and success.

The purpose of the Direct Admission Agreement between the two institutions is to provide a streamlined pipeline for students graduating from Utica University to earn direct admission to graduate programs in Syracuse University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science.

“These kinds of collaborative arrangements with other institutions offer us very promising opportunities to leverage our core strengths and provide our students with additional pathways to established and emergency professional field that might not have been accessible to them otherwise,” said President Nesbitt. “They allow us to concentrate on what we do best – delivering a high-quality, highly individualized educational experience at an affordable cost – while expanding educational opportunities for our students for graduate degree programs in high-demand career fields.”

This new pathway is open to Utica University students who are receiving a Bachelor of Science degree or Bachelor of Art degree in:

  • Biology
  • Biochemistry
  • Chemistry
  • Computer Science
  • Cybersecurity
  • Geoscience
  • Engineering
  • Math
  • Physics

Upon completion at Utica University, students will then be eligible to directly enter Syracuse University graduate programs in:

  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Computer Engineering
  • Computer Science
  • Cybersecurity
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Engineering Management
  • Environmental Engineering
  • Environmental Engineering Science
  • Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
  • Operations Research and System Analytics

“We have maintained strong ties with Syracuse University since our founding in 1946,” said Dean of Natural Sciences and Distinguished Professor of Biology Dr. Sharon Wise. “The 4+2 Engineering Pathway builds on this longstanding partnership by providing students in the natural sciences, mathematics, computer science, and cybersecurity with a direct admission pathway into master's programs in engineering, computer science, and cybersecurity at Syracuse University. The students will also benefit by receiving reduced tuition rates at Syracuse University.”

Students taking advantage of the articulation agreement to transition from Utica undergraduate to Syracuse graduate programs will take a free bridge course in the summer following commencement. The course will help prepare students for an engineering track, covering much of the basic information needed for engineering majors that are not typically covered in non-engineering undergraduate majors.

Regarding tuition, financial aid and scholarships, each institution will determine aid eligibility.
